To My Dear Future Employer:

I believe that honesty, sincerity, and transparency are the best key point in disclosing myself so that in one way or another you will know me better through my personal background.

Family Background
My name is Absalona. My friends fondly call me Abby or Adjing. I’m 29 years old, single, and was born in the Philippines March 02, 1979. I came from a big yet close family of 7 siblings. I have 5 sisters and 1 brother and I am the youngest among them all. Since from our childhood years, our parents disciplined and taught us to be a good to ourselves and others. They always inspire us to follow our dreams no matter what, and to truly value education, and be the best we can be despite comiong from simple living. Father is a farmer and my mother is a stay at home mom.

School Years
Due to strong and positive foundation from my family and the inspiring words from my parents, we al finished our studies. With strong determination, I took and finished my Associate in Computer Science course and my Bachelor’s degree in Commerce as a self supporting student. I was a working student in our school during my first 2 years in College. Working in a janitorial department wasn’t that easy. We need to render long hours of service especially during overtime since our school then was expanding a new building. But despite from all those experiences, I didn’t give up instead I consider it as a challenge. Doing so, I was also able to help my parents to lessen their financial burden. After my 2 year course, I decided to transfer to another school and proceed a Bachelor’s degree. I took up Bachelor of Science in Commerce major in Management, again as a self supporting student. I was then working as a part time internet attendant in one of the internet cafĂ© near in our school. It was pretty cool since I was able to use my knowledge in computer. But after 1 year, since I got few remaining units on my subjects, I decided to stop my part time job since at that time my niece and nephew needs a special attention in the absence of their parents. My sister then helped me regarding on my school financial obligations.

Job Experiences
After I graduated from college, working here in Taiwan as a factory worker is the 5th job experienced that I have. Being an inquisitive person all those experiences helped me a lot to explore and broaden my knowledge and well being especially on my present job. I was so happy and blessed during my first 3 years stay here in Taiwan since I was able to help my family especially in their needs. After I finished my contract last August of 2007, I went back to Philippines, and decided to stay there for almost a year and took up the Live-In Caregiver Program. This course helped me to gain more knowledge and uplift my skills and abilities especially in dealing with elderly, person with disabilities and proper child care. I had my On-The-Job Training on community based childcare under the supervision of St. Martha’s Development Center Corporation. In this training I was responsible in taking vital signs, drug administration, assisting and inspiring the patient especially to do morning exercises for elderly and general childcare for children like child hygiene, health and nutrition feeding, behavioral and cognitive development, social and personality development and other childcare aspects.

With this course also, I have learned to perform first aid in case of emergency and do the CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) both for adult and children. Right after I finished the said course, since our company had given me a rehired form, I decided to come back here in Taiwan last July of 2008 bringing with me the hope that Taiwan would be my way out of fulfilling my dream to work in Canada.

Words of assurance
Though I don’t have an experienced working as a paid Nanny or Caregiver, I presumed that my experienced being with my niece and nephew for 3 years would be beneficial enough. The kids were the primary reason why I stopped with my part time job. I was doing my best to balance my time for them and my studies. In the absence of their parents due to the demand of their work, with the help of my cousin, I was responsible in general childcare. Nurturing children’s natural love of learning and inquisitiveness is the most exciting point I’ve experienced being with them. I enjoyed their curiosity and their built-in desire to learn about the world around them. I always encourage and inspire them to develop self-esteem and confidence in everything they do as part of their learning. Their innocent smile and boldness inspires me most of the time. At their young age I was trying to teach them to keep their schedules and organize their days as to what would be the appropriate time to do the homework, what time to play, watch television and etc. I assumed the role not just their Tita (aunt), but also as their friend and playmate, as a philosopher, mentor and a disciplinarian. I then realized that being with the kids was the most promising experienced I have. Why? It’s because at their young and growing stage, I was able to impart my knowledge and skills, help them to be a good, respectful and loving son and daughter.

Furthermore, it also helped me a lot to develop my personal attributes. I learned to be more understanding, responsible, flexible, and be more patient especially when the kids have their natural temper tantrums.

Hobbies and Interest
I am very particular about cleanliness. When I am at home or even in my dormitory now, I make sure that everything is neat, clean and organize. During my leisure time, I enjoy watching news and current affairs, sometimes just listening to music or playing guitar, reading inspirational and psychological books would make feel comfortable when I am at home. I know how to swim (a little bit) and drive a motorbike. I like to do some simple exercises like jogging, hiking, walking, or even biking. I love cooking and I am comfortable working in the kitchen. But honestly, I do cook only simple Filipino dishes but if given a chance, I am open and very much willing to learn more.

Personal Attributes
I am simple, soft spoken yet down to earth lady who has a big heart for children. A sweet smile of a baby and even a simple sound of birds would make me feel happy already all day long. I love pets also especially dog and cat. I am trustworthy, responsible, patient, flexible, very hardworking, and have strong determination and positive outlook in life which I considered as my strength, and above all a loving person.

Hopes and Dreams
My mere intention in applying for Canada is to have a greener opportunity in fulfilling my dreams for my immediate family and hopefully to my future family. I believe that if given a chance to work here in your developed and prestigious country, it would be a great help learning that the people here in your country are good and friendly. I want to share and developed my talents and skills not only for financial gain but for personal growth as well.

Sir/Madam, I hope that you will accept my application to be your live-in caregiver/nanny and I assure you that I will give my best to do my duties and responsibilities with love and dedication.
Thank you so much and I’m hoping for your kind consideration on this regard.

Sincerely,
Abby

(Nanny) ALMIRA 31yrs old

Location: Hong Kong
Nationality: Filipino
Training/Experience: Over 3yrs as nanny - domestic helper
Interested in this Live-in Nanny? Email Us

Hi! I am Almira, 30 years of age, Christian, married and a mother of two from the Philippines. I was born on May 25, 1977 at Roxas City, Western Visayas, Philippines. I stand 5 foot’2 and weigh 115 kilograms. I am married to Mr. Joselito M. Salonga, a former college professor in Information Technology for 12 years but who is now serving God as a Pastor in the Philippines.

My husband and I have been married for 10 years and we have two wonderful sons namely, Paul Christian and Almer Josh, aged 10 and 9 respectively. I can say that I have a simple family with simple dreams of raising our children and giving them a good education and a bright future. My husband is currently taking care of my children while I am working here in abroad. Being apart from my family is the most difficult thing I have to do but I have to sacrifice to work abroad to have a better and brighter future for my family.

I am handling the difficulty of being away with my family by always thinking that I am doing this for the future of my family and by treating the family I am serving as my own. I started my early education in Western Visayas, Philippines and obtained my college degree in Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Samson College of Science and Technology, the same school where my husband used to work as a college professor. As a person, I am well-rounded, cheerful, educated, honest, and hardworking with strong moral values. I have shown these traits as a student, worker and as a mother and wife as well.

What makes me different from everyone else is my capability and ease in adapting to different people and different culture because of my being friendly and caring for other people. My hobbies include computers, drawing, reading books, playing sports and playing musical instruments like keyboard. I also enjoy being in the church every Sunday where I offer my service to my fellow Filipina domestic helpers and other people.

What really makes me happy is when I learn news about my family in the Philippines. It makes me happy also to be with people especially children. Working here in abroad is the biggest challenge so far in my life and I'm happy that I have succeeded so far in my work.

I am currently working as a Domestic Helper here in Hong Kong and I am taking care of a 10-year old girl. My main duties and responsibilities include child care, tutoring and household chores. What I enjoy and love most in my last or current job is taking care of children. In fact, I have an experience in taking care of twin children since their infancy. I can humbly say that I have shown hard work, patience, diligence, honesty and dedication to my work especially in taking care of children because I really treat them as my own kids.

My greatest plan for the future is to be with my family. I have decided to look for a job there in Canada because I want to help my husband in raising and giving our children a brighter future.

Honestly, I find Canada a very great place to work and to look for a brighter future. I also have a plan to migrate to Canada with my family. I humbly believe that I’m very capable of doing my job of taking care of children. Aside from already having enough experience of taking care of children, I myself am a mother too. I have a mother's heart to nurture and love your children as my own because I myself have children and I know how to love and take care of them.

I hope you will give me a chance to be a blessing and to be a member of your family.

Respectfully Yours,

Almira

(Nanny) VIVIAN

Location: Hong Kong
Nationality: Filipino
Training/Experience: BS in Education Degree

My name is Vivian, I am the eldest of 6children. Four brothers and one sister.. My mother is 63 years of age and my father passed away. I don't have any children and I am single.
The question: If leaving my family for the first time, what would you do? This is a difficult question for me to answer - though I am single and i don't have any children, incase i did have one, and I had to leave them - I think I will look for someone whom i can trust that could hold responsibility of their care and who will give them love and care as much as i do when I'm around. Since i can,t be with them, i will call them from time to time to check their needs and situations. I'll talk to them on phone whenever it is possible so that bond between us remains, though we're apart. This way love and care still shared in the family, even if I am miles away.
What i enjoyed most in my last job is the bond we developed with the little girl i took care of. It always put a smile on my face whenever i remember her. She used to imitate everything I did. She follow the way i walked, the way i talk, my style in wearing clothes and even the expression i used to say. It is why i am cautious in what to say and do in the house because strong tendency to be imitated and it can be a negative impact.

The worst thing about my last job is that i had to leave the family because they could no longer employ me, due to financial reasons and i had to look for another job.

My parents were a disciplinarian but lovable. We are christhian. They teach us how to fear GOD. The whole family live in harmony though poor. My mother gave time on us, teach us how to be a good person. She teach us the correct manners and i've learned from her how to be patient and be strong. To have a strong determination in fulfilling a dream.

Some issues that I have had to deal with in my jobs - Being too close to the child you care for, sometimes become a problem. Sometimes the children come to me instead of their mother - To resolved this matter there needs to be an open conversation with the parents - children cannot help themselves at times, if they are needing a hug, or just a little comfort. I spend the most time with the children and I find it difficult to snub a child.

What i do for fun after work is reading and watch tv. To have some rest. And during my days off is that I spend time with a friend and walk in the malls. If someone or a friend appreciate and accept me as a simple person. I am then really very happy and if someone appreciate what i give to them- acceptance and appreciation makes me really happy. I do like outdoors, I don't know if I'd be considered athletic. I don't see myself that way. I like to play volleyball, badminton and I like to jog.

I want to work for a family who can treat me fairly. A family who will be happy to have me as their helper. I believe that if my boss likes me as a person and they trust me to care for the family then both sides will be living in harmony. I would appreciate an employer who'll give me working time hours/schedule. Not where I don't know when I start or end the next day. I'm not a job hopper, I will stay with an employer as long as we're happy to each other and the family still needs my service.
Aside from looking after the children, the family, the house -- I can also cook. I am comfortable in the kitchen I like to cook request foods. This way I am sure they will like the food I prepare. I don't have any dietary restrictions - I will eat just about anything.

I want to come to Canada for few reasons - To experience the environment and see the real snow, for better salary and new work set-up like having a working time hours, to avail citizenship. I believe that Canada has lots of opportunities for me and my "future" family. Last -- after I've settled myself and am comfortable, maybe :) To find my lifetime partner.

Thank you for reading my letter. I do hope that I was able to convey me personality in such a short form.

Respectfully yours,

Vivian
